The court of appeal is the highest judicial instance on the bahamas. It is composed of a panel of three judges. Ultimate appeals go to the Privy Council of the United Kingdom.

First Instance Courts

The Magistrate courts in New Providence and Freeport are the courts of first instance, and trial on criminal cases with a maximum sentence of five years. On the smaller islands commissioners deal with the minor civil cases and minor offences.
