Supreme Courts (Highest Instance)
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial instance in Candada. It is the final Court of Appeal.
The Supreme Court of Canada consists of nine justices, the Chief Justice of Canada and eight puisne (lower ranking) justices. The justices are chosen by the governor in council (Prime Minister of Canada), appointed until they retire or reach the age of 75.

The Federal Court is the national trial court which hears and decides legal disputes arising in the federal domain, including claims against the Government of Canada, civil suits in federally-regulated areas and challenges to the decisions of federal tribunals. Its authority derives primarily from the Federal Courts Act.
The Court consists of a Chief Justice and 32 other judges.
The main office of the Court is located in Ottawa; local hearings are held in several court locations throughout the canadian territory.
